Job Description

The Public Safety Telecommunicator will be crucial in receiving and responding to emergency medical calls. You'll be responsible for dispatching the necessary medical personnel and equipment, ensuring the smooth flow of communication during critical situations. This role requires acute decision-making skills and the ability to perform under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and process emergency medical calls with urgency.
  • Evaluate the situation and identify the need for additional resources.
  • Keep the caller informed and calm while dispatching the necessary services.
  • Utilize emergency dispatch software to track service requests.
  • Prepare detailed reports of incident responses for review.
  • Work collaboratively with other emergency responders and departments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all call information and sensitive data.
  • Engage in regular drills and training sessions to improve response time and effectiveness.
  • Assist with dispatching non-emergency medical transportation when necessary.

Requirements

Education
  • Matric Certificate or Equivalent
  • Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification preferred
Experience
  • Previous experience in a call center environment is advantageous.
