Job Description

As a Substance Abuse Counselor, you will provide critical support and guidance to individuals facing addiction challenges. Your role includes assessing clients, developing personalized treatment plans, and facilitating therapeutic sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial assessments and develop personalized treatment plans.
  • Provide individual therapy and facilitate group sessions, focusing on evidence-based strategies.
  • Monitor client's progress through regular follow-ups and adjust plans as necessary.
  • Maintain professional documentation and comply with legal standards.
  • Provide referrals to external resources and facilitate integration with community services.
  • Engage in case management to effectively address client needs.
  • Educate families about addiction treatment and recovery options.
  • Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, social workers, and other specialists.
  • Participate in ongoing professional training and development opportunities.
  • Foster a supportive and compassionate environment for clients.

Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work
  • Registered or in the process of registering with HPCSA
Experience
  • 3-5 years' experience in addiction treatment or counseling

  • Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)

  • Crisis management experience: Experience in managing crisis situations effectively during counseling sessions.
