Insurance Underwriter

Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to assess and analyze insurance applications and determine risk levels. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of underwriting principles and a commitment to delivering excellent client service.

Responsibilities

• Assess risks by reviewing applications, financial statements, and other supporting documents.
• Establish relationships with clients to facilitate effective communication.
• Evaluate and implement underwriting guidelines and procedures.
• Monitor market conditions and competitor activity related to underwriting.
• Support risk management initiatives and proposals.
• Manage renewal processes and customer communications.
• Conduct risk assessments and recommend policy adjustments as needed.
• Participate in policy formulation and improvement efforts.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Economics, or a related field

Experience

• 5+ years in the insurance industry with a focus on underwriting

• Underwriting Guidelines

Certifications

• Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC)
• Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) Accreditation

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Familiarity with actuary concepts: Basic understanding of actuarial principles and their application in underwriting.
• Bilingual skills: Ability to communicate in Afrikaans or Zulu is a plus.
