Ship Carpenter

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Ship Carpenter to join our team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will have experience in constructing and repairing wooden structures on vessels, ensuring high-quality results in line with safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Build and install interior structures and fittings, including cabinetry.
• Repair and maintain external structures, ensuring weather resistance.
• Work with various materials, including wood, fiberglass, and metals.
• Communicate effectively with clients regarding project specifications.
• Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Assist in troubleshooting design issues during construction.
• Work flexibly across various shipbuilding projects as required.
• Provide input on cost-effective solutions and material sourcing.
• Review and propose improvements to work methods and practices.

Requirements

Education

• Completion of a carpentry apprenticeship or equivalent training
• High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in shipbuilding or carpentry

Technical Skills

• Fiberglass Work
• Computer-Aided Design (CAD)

Soft Skills

• Creative Thinking
• Adaptability

Certifications

• Welding Certification

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Familiarity with various ship types: Hands-on experience with different types of vessels, including yachts and cargo ships.
