Community and Social Service Specialist

Job Description

We are seeking a Community and Social Service Specialist to provide vital assistance to veterans and their families in Johannesburg. You will help clients navigate the application process for government benefits, ensuring they receive the support they need.

Responsibilities

• Provide training and support to new team members on veterans' issues and services.
• Attend community meetings and events to promote awareness of veterans' issues.
• Collaborate in the development of initiatives aimed at improving veterans' access to services.
• Maintain important relationships with community partners to facilitate better service delivery.
• Perform additional duties as directed by the Veteran Affairs Manager.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in social work or a related field
• Experience in government services is a plus

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in community service, with veterans' experience preferred

Technical Skills

• Database management software
• Microsoft Office Suite

• Teamwork
• Organizational skills

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Zulu: Basic

Advantageous

• Fluency in additional South African languages: Ability to communicate in Afrikaans, Zulu, or other local languages.
• Experience in outreach programs: Skills in designing and implementing community outreach programs.
