Health and Safety Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a diligent Health and Safety Engineer to enhance our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing safety plans and ensuring compliance with local regulations. You will conduct safety assessments, risk analyses, and design safety systems to minimize workplace hazards.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular safety training sessions for staff.
• Evaluate safety equipment and make recommendations for improvements.
• Implement health and safety management systems.
• Coordinate with external safety consultants for audits.
• Document and report on workplace safety performance.
• Participate in the incident investigation process.
• Monitor regulatory changes that may affect safety practices.
• Engage with employees to assess safety concerns and feedback.
• Foster teamwork to ensure a safe working environment.
• Act as a liaison between management and staff on safety matters.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• Masters or PhD preferred

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in safety-critical industries such as automotive or aerospace

Technical Skills

• Safety analysis tools (FTA, FMEA)
• Functional Safety Management Tools

Soft Skills

• Interpersonal skills
• Problem-solving

Certifications

• TUV Functional Safety Certification

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Zulu: Conversational

Advantageous

• Masters in Engineering or related field: Advanced degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Experience in safety engineering consulting: Experience working as a consultant in safety-critical industries.
