Job Description

We are on the lookout for an Urban Planner to join our dynamic team in Port Elizabeth. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of urban design principles, regulations, and the ability to create comprehensive urban plans. You will play a crucial role in collaborating with community stakeholders and local authorities to achieve sustainable urban development.

Responsibilities

• Lead urban design and planning initiatives.
• Collaborate with various departments to integrate planning efforts.
• Research best practices in urban planning and apply them to projects.
• Prepare and present planning proposals to stakeholders.
• Manage project timelines and deliverables effectively.
• Assess risks associated with urban planning decisions.
• Work on initiatives to improve public spaces.
• Support the implementation of community engagement strategies.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or Environmental Science
• Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field is an advantage

Experience

• 4-6 years of experience in urban planning

Technical Skills

• Sustainability Practices
• Planning Software (AutoCAD, SketchUp)

Soft Skills

• Negotiation
• Time Management

Certifications

• Urban Planning Certification from a recognized body
• Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Bilingual (Afrikaans/English): Ability to communicate effectively in both Afrikaans and English.
• Experience with Public Policy Development: Background in developing policies that affect urban planning.
