Job Description

As a Philosophy Professor, your primary responsibility is to teach and conduct research in the field of philosophy. You'll provide instruction to undergraduate and postgraduate students, contribute to departmental activities, and engage in scholarly research.

Responsibilities

  • Engage students through dynamic teaching methods and class discussions.
  • Create and update course materials, including syllabi and reading lists.
  • Lead research initiatives and collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Assess and evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, and papers.
  • Foster an inclusive and respectful classroom environment.
  • Promote critical thinking and philosophical inquiry among students.
  • Advise students on academic and career decisions.
  • Engage with the wider academic community through workshops and seminars.
  • Uphold ethical standards in teaching and research.

Requirements

Education
  • Master's degree in Philosophy or related field
Experience
  • Previous teaching experience at the tertiary level is preferred
Technical Skills
  • Experience in supervising postgraduate research projects
  • Presentation of papers at conferences
Soft Skills
  • Effective communication and engagement skills
  • Adaptability and openness to new teaching methods
Languages
  • English: Fluent
  • Zulu: Basic

Advantageous

  • Experience in supervising postgraduate research projects: Hands-on experience in mentoring postgraduate students.
  • Proficiency in additional languages: Ability to teach and communicate in more than one language.
  • Presentation of papers at international conferences: Experience presenting at academic conferences globally.
