Job Description

We are on the lookout for a detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to join our team in Durban. The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting new policies, assessing risks, and determining appropriate coverage terms. You will play a crucial role in helping our clients navigate their insurance needs while ensuring profitability for the company.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze insurance applications and supplementary documentation.
• Make informed underwriting decisions based on risk analysis and client profiles.
• Collaborate with claims departments to understand claims trends and help in risk assessment.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with insurance agents and brokers.
• Create and update underwriting guidelines to reflect changes in regulations and market conditions.
• Assist in the training of new underwriters on best practices.
• Handle complex underwriting scenarios and provide innovative solutions.
• Engage in continuous professional development to enhance underwriting skills.
• Ensure timely processing of applications to meet service level agreements.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to the department's success.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Finance or Insurance-related field
• Further certifications (e.g., CII, LOMA) are advantageous

Experience

• 3-5 years in underwriting with exposure to commercial lines
