Health and Safety Officer

Job Description

As a Health and Safety Officer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining workplace safety in our Pretoria facility. Your responsibilities will include conducting safety inspections, identifying risks, and developing safety programs to educate staff. You will collaborate with management and staff to foster a culture of safety within our engineering operations.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate workplace conditions and recommend enhancements for safety.
• Assist in the preparation of safety audits and compliance checks.
• Promote health and wellness initiatives among employees to enhance safety culture.
• Review and update safety policies in line with changing regulations.
• Encourage employee participation in safety programs and initiatives.
• Manage safety equipment and ensure it is maintained and functional.

Requirements

Education

• Degree in Engineering or related field
• Postgraduate qualifications in Health and Safety is advantageous

Experience

• 5+ years of relevant experience in health and safety management

Technical Skills

• Safety Auditing
• Emergency Response Planning

Soft Skills

• Leadership
• Problem-solving

Certifications

• ISO 45001 Lead Auditor
• Health and Safety Representative Training

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Zulu: Basic

Advantageous

• Familiarity with construction safety regulations: Experience in the construction industry is a plus.
• Experience with safety software solutions: Proficient in using tools for managing safety data and compliance.
