Public Health Officer

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Public Health Officer to join our team in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing public health programs aimed at promoting community well-being. This role involves assessing health needs, evaluating health services, and collaborating with various stakeholders to improve health outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Design community-specific health interventions and campaigns.
• Assess the quality and accessibility of local health services.
• Foster relationships with local stakeholders to address public health issues.
• Lead health education sessions within the community.
• Compile data for grant applications and funding proposals.
• Evaluate project effectiveness and report results.
• Stay updated on public health legislation and best practices.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Public Health or related field
• Master's degree in Public Health is preferred

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in public health program development.

Technical Skills

• Statistical Software (e.g., SPSS, STATA)
• Grant Writing

• Leadership
• Interpersonal Skills

Certifications

• Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Zulu: Conversational

Advantageous

• Bilingual in English and Afrikaans/Zulu: Ability to communicate effectively in both languages.
• Experience with Community Health Workers: Familiarity with training and working alongside community health workers.
