Job Description

A neonatal social worker provides essential emotional, educational, and practical support to families whose children are admitted to neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). The role involves working closely with parents to help them cope with the stress associated with having a premature or ill infant, while also facilitating access to necessary resources and services.

Responsibilities

  • Support families emotionally during their NICU experience.
  • Educate parents about the health and development of their newborns.
  • Advocate for families within the healthcare system.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care.
  • Monitor and evaluate family needs over time.
  • Lead community workshops about neonatal health.
  • Ensure confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Guide families through the discharge process effectively.
  • Provide informational resources for parents and families.
  • Document all interactions and services provided accurately.

Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work
  • Additional certifications related to neonatal social work are advantageous.
Experience
  • Experience working with neonatal patients and families is preferred.
