Job Description

The Customs Opener is responsible for opening and inspecting goods that are being imported or exported to ensure compliance with customs regulations and laws. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the supply chain.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough inspections of incoming and outgoing shipments.
• Maintain compliance with health and safety standards during inspections.
• Communicate findings clearly to relevant parties.
• Handle and resolve discrepancies related to customs documentation.
• Utilize customs management software to track inspections.
• Support the customs clearance team in processing documentation.
• Engage in ongoing training on customs laws and best practices.
• Perform periodic audits of compliance procedures.
• Develop effective working relationships with customs officials.
• Participate in departmental meetings to share insights and improve processes.

Requirements

Education

• Additional qualification in Logistics or Supply Chain Management

Experience

• Experience in customs inspection is advantageous

Technical Skills

• Familiarity with customs software

Languages

• Afrikaans: Conversational

Advantageous

• Experience in dealing with international trade: Familiarity with trade regulations and how they apply to customs.
