Database Administrator

Job Description

We are on the lookout for a Database Administrator to join our IT team in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and optimizing databases to ensure high performance and availability. You'll work across various projects, maintaining data integrity and security while providing support for database-related queries.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the installation, configuration, and upgrading of database management systems.
• Monitor database performance and implement optimization strategies.
• Develop and enforce data backup and recovery policies.
• Work with other departments to analyze and address database requirements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database malfunctions and errors.
• Keep abreast of latest database technologies and trends.
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation of database systems.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
• Master's degree in Database Management is preferred

Experience

• 3-5 years of experience in database administration

Technical Skills

• PostgreSQL
• Database Backup Technologies

Soft Skills

• Problem-solving
• Time Management

Certifications

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect
• CompTIA Security+

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Knowledge of data modelling techniques: Strong skills in data modelling to enhance database efficiency.
• Experience with database migration: Hands-on experience in migrating databases to newer platforms.
