Substance Abuse Counselor

Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team in Cape Town. The successful candidate will have experience in providing counseling to individuals struggling with addiction, assisting them in developing coping strategies and recovery plans.

Responsibilities

• Work with clients to identify personal goals and recovery milestones.
• Encouragement and motivation to clients during their recovery process.
• Develop educational materials and resources for clients and their families.
• Stay informed on local and national resources for substance abuse treatment.
• Promote a positive and supportive environment for clients recovering from addiction.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Psychology
• Master’s degree in Counseling is preferred

Experience

• 3+ years of experience in addiction treatment or counseling

Technical Skills

• Motivational Interviewing
• Relapse Prevention Planning

Soft Skills

• Conflict Resolution
• Adaptability

Certifications

• Certified Addictions Counselor certification

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Zulu: Basic

• Familiarity with local community resources.: Knowledge of support services available in Cape Town.
