Job Description

We are on the lookout for a Chemical Safety Engineer to join our team in Richards Bay. This role involves ensuring compliance with safety regulations, conducting risk assessments, and developing safety protocols to safeguard our operations. The successful candidate will have a solid background in chemical engineering and a passion for safety within the chemical industry.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement safety protocols for chemical handlers and operators.
  • Conduct training sessions to promote safety awareness among employees.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of safety measures and suggest improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations relating to chemical spills and waste disposal.
  • Compile and analyze safety performance data for continuous improvement.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and external safety consultants as necessary.
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute to safety culture initiatives.

Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety is preferable
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical safety management

Advantageous

  • Familiarity with HAZOP and LOPA techniques: Knowledge of Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
