Legal Counsel

Job Description

We are looking for a Legal Counsel to provide strategic legal advice and collaborate across departments in Johannesburg. This position involves overseeing compliance issues, managing contracts, and representing the firm in legal proceedings. The ideal candidate will possess strong legal acumen, excellent judgement, and the ability to thrive under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Identify legal issues and assess risk in various business endeavors.
• Draft and negotiate commercial agreements with clients and vendors.
• Develop and implement compliance-related policies and training programs.
• Maintain relationships with external legal advisors and consultants.
• Provide strategic input into corporate planning and business initiatives.
• Participate in corporate governance activities.
• Keep the management team informed about legal matters that could impact the business.
• Serve as a liaison between the legal department and other company areas.
• Review and suggest changes to corporate policies and documents to ensure compliance.
• Advise on employment-related legal issues and ensure adherence to labor laws.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in law or a related field
• Master's or LLM preferred

Experience

• 3+ years of relevant legal experience, with a focus on corporate law
