Job Description

As a Hostler Helper, you will play a crucial role in the movement of railcars within our rail yard. This position involves working closely with the Hostler Driver and ensuring efficient and safe operations. A strong focus on teamwork and safety protocols is essential.

Responsibilities

• Support the Hostler Driver in moving rail cars efficiently.
• Ensure proper signaling and communication during railcar movements.
• Perform routine inspections on railcars for safety compliance.
• Maintain the yard's operations through diligent cleaning and organization.
• Follow all health and safety regulations in the work environment.
• Assist in basic mechanical tasks on railcars.
• Contribute positively to team safety meetings and training.
• Maintain accurate records of railcar movements.

Requirements

Education

• Grade 12

Experience

• No prior experience required, but rail yard experience is advantageous.

Technical Skills

• Basic knowledge of railcar equipment and mechanics
• Physical stamina

Soft Skills

• Strong communication skills
• Attention to detail

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Prior rail yard experience: Experience working in a rail yard environment is beneficial.
• Mechanical aptitude: Basic understanding of mechanical and technical equipment.
• Basic computer skills: Familiarity with computer usage for reporting and communication.
