Customs Broker

Job Description

As a Customs Broker, you will manage the customs clearance process for imported goods. Your role is essential in ensuring compliance with regulations while facilitating the smooth flow of goods across borders. You will work closely with various stakeholders to prepare import documentation and resolve any customs-related issues.

Responsibilities

• Manage the customs clearance process from start to finish for various goods.
• Ensure timely submission of all necessary documents to customs authorities.
• Collaborate with logistics teams to streamline the import process.
• Analyze customs data and reports to improve clearance efficiency.
• Liaise with government agencies regarding customs regulations.
• Prepare and file necessary appeals regarding customs decisions.
• Address and resolve any customs-related disputes or issues.
• Ensure all records are maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to customs compliance.
• Provide exceptional customer service to clients during the customs process.

Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certification in Customs Management or related field is a strong advantage.

Experience

• 1-2 years of experience in customs clearance or freight forwarding.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of Tariff Codes
• Regulatory Compliance

Certifications

• Customs Broker Certification
• International Trade Certification (preferred)

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Zulu: Basic

Advantageous

• Experience in Freight Forwarding: Prior experience in freight forwarding or logistics operations is a plus.
• Familiarity with EDI Systems: Experience using Electronic Data Interchange systems for customs processes.
