Telegrapher

Job Description

The Telegrapher will be responsible for operating and maintaining telecommunications equipment to send and receive messages and signals effectively. This role requires a keen eye for detail and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure operational readiness of telegraph equipment.
• Adjust and calibrate equipment as necessary.
• Respond promptly to communication breakdowns.
• Maintain detailed logs of messages and equipment performance.
• Assist in training new team members on equipment operation.
• Perform emergency communication procedures as required.
• Keep up-to-date with technological advancements in telecommunications.

Requirements

Education

• Grade 12 certificate or equivalent
• Certification in telecommunications or relevant field

Experience

• At least 2 years of experience in telecommunication operations or telegraphy.

Technical Skills

• Basic computer skills
• Problem-solving skills

Soft Skills

• Ability to work under pressure and during emergencies
• Ability to work well both independently and in a team

Advantageous

• Experience in radio telegraphy: Previous experience operating radio telegraph equipment.
• Background in electrical engineering or electronics: Understanding of electrical systems relevant to communication equipment.
