Governance Compliance Officer

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Governance Compliance Officer to oversee compliance processes and ensure adherence to laws and regulations in our Durban office. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing compliance policies, conducting audits, and providing guidance on compliance matters.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and revise compliance documents and manuals.
• Conduct internal investigations related to compliance breaches.
• Create and oversee compliance monitoring and testing processes.
• Coordinate with legal and external auditors for compliance assessments.
• Provide guidance and advice on compliance issues to various departments.
• Implement effective compliance training programs for employees.
• Maintain compliance databases and ensure proper tracking of compliance issues.
• Report compliance violations to appropriate parties.
• Facilitate risk management meetings and compliance discussions.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field
• Juris Doctorate or equivalent is preferred

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in governance or compliance roles

Certifications

• Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Prior experience in a governmental compliance role: Experience working with government compliance standards.
• Familiarity with data protection regulations (POPIA): Knowledge of South African data protection laws.
