Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Fish Hatchery Superintendent to lead our hatchery operations in Cape Town. You will oversee breeding programs, manage hatchery staff, and ensure compliance with regulations, all while fostering a culture of innovation and sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise hatchery staff, scheduling shifts and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate records of breeding, feeding, and fish health.
  • Develop strategic plans for hatchery improvement and fish production increase.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to ensure safety standards.
  • Lead training sessions on best practices in fish care and management.
  • Work with suppliers to manage inventory and procure necessary supplies.
  • Engage in community outreach to promote sustainable aquaculture practices.
  • Prepare and manage the hatchery budget, ensuring cost efficiency.
  • Act as a liaison with regulatory bodies for compliance matters.
  • Explore aquaponics methods to integrate into hatchery practices.

Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries Management, or a related field
  • Master's degree or relevant certifications in Hatchery Management preferred
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in hatchery operations and management
