Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Veterinary Surgeon to join our team in Port Elizabeth. The ideal candidate will have expertise in diagnosing and treating a variety of animal health issues. You will play a vital role in providing high-quality veterinary care while ensuring the comfort and welfare of pets and livestock.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat a wide range of animal illnesses and injuries.
• Perform complex surgical procedures as needed.
• Train and mentor junior veterinary staff and interns.
• Engage in client education and behaviour modification advice.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients to ensure ongoing care.
• Conduct follow-up assessments on treated animals to monitor recovery.
• Participate in clinical meetings and case discussions to improve service delivery.
• Stay informed of the latest trends and research in veterinary medicine.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine
• Master's degree in Veterinary Science is preferred

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in a clinical setting

Technical Skills

• Anaesthesia management
• Laboratory skills

Certifications

• Advanced Canine and Feline Medicine
• Animal Welfare Certification

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Xhosa: Conversational

Advantageous

• Familiarity with veterinary software systems: Experience using practice management software for record keeping.
• Previous experience in emergency veterinary services: Experience working in a high-pressure emergency environment.
