Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Johannesburg. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design and engineering principles. You will be responsible for developing and testing prototypes, working with CAD software, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

• Create and optimize CAD models of mechanical systems.
• Perform calculations and simulations to assess design viability.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for integrated design solutions.
• Participate in the prototyping and testing of new products.
• Document project progress and communicate results to stakeholders.
• Mentor junior staff and provide insights into best design practices.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Professional registration is preferable

Experience

• 5+ years of design engineering experience in a relevant industry

Technical Skills

• Proficient with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
• Strong background in FEA and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

Soft Skills

• Critical Thinking
• Project Management

Certifications

• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Knowledge of sustainability in design practices: Experience in eco-design principles and practices for mechanical systems.
