Criminal Defense Lawyer

Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Criminal Defense Lawyer to join our Johannesburg office. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of criminal law, a strong ability to advocate for clients, and excellent negotiation skills. You will represent clients in court, manage cases from start to finish, and provide legal advice.

Responsibilities

• Defend clients charged with criminal offenses, from misdemeanors to felonies.
• Research and interpret laws, prepare legal briefs, and present cases.
• Provide legal counsel regarding case strategies and options.
• Attend court hearings, trials, and mediations.
• Compile and analyze evidence to build defense cases.
• Maintain accurate records and case documentation.
• Participate in continuing legal education and professional development opportunities.
• Engage in proactive outreach to potential clients and community legal education.
• Mentor junior lawyers and support staff as needed.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB)
• Postgraduate Diploma in Law preferred

Experience

• 4-6 years of experience in criminal defense
